'Padma' BaliJava by Denny Wirawan in F/W 2016 NYFW #IndonesiansinAmerica

Our heritage is one of the most prestigious things we can show to the world. It is our identity, it is ours.

It may not be the first time Indonesian designer has shine in the western country, especially the United States of America. But it never not a proud moment when another designer brought Indonesia to the world.

Denny Wirawan is always making me proud with everything he does in the industry. I love how he stays true to himself while keeping up with the ever evolving world.

Working with Djarum Foundation, Oscar Daniel and EPAJEWEL, he brought Batik Indonesia to New York Fashion Week 2016. His collection BaliJava with Batik Kudus is one of my favorite, because it's modern, fresh and as always elegant. Ready to wear pieces; layering tops, outer, long skirt, pants, capes, and dresses (can be mix and match of course), blends with the pattern and Wirawan's very own embroidery technique. The show was held at the Ballroom of Hotel Affinia in Manhattan.

The title is Inspired by 'Padma' as the lotus flower, thus the motifs are varies from lotus flower, kecer rice and wajikan as the main design. With colors like navy, olive, beige and black, rich and subtle perfect for the Fall/Winter.

I love how Batik Kudus is the main attention, because it is a coastal heritage of Central Java, Indonesia. It is a 'movement', "...preserving Indonesia's Batik and the handicraft industry" said the Program Director of Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation, Renitasari Adrian.

Batik Kudus itself is very unique in its own rights, with its intricate details and complicated making process. It was popular in the 1880 to 1940 then developed until 1970s. It has a strong Chinese culture influence with the flora and fauna motifs making it a multicultural creation, perfect to represent Indonesia.

I'm beyond proud with Mas Denny and Mas Oscar, they've worked so hard and so brilliantly that they truly deserve all the praise and good things coming their way. Their endless creativity is nothing short of inspiring.

Thank you Mas Denny and Mas Oscar, for bringing the good name of Indonesia to the world. Love.
